My Moment in (10% of) the Sun

As you probably know, there was a full solar eclipse (fancy people call it an annular eclipse) a couple of weeks ago.  What you may not know is how stylish I looked during the eclipse.

I make these glasses look good.
Of course, if you think I look good, you will not be able to comprehend the fabulosity of my sister Mellen.

It was a super neat experience.  The last time there was an eclipse like this, I was a precious little tyke.  My parents told us we couldn't look directly at the sun, but they showed us how we could cut a hole in a piece of paper and have the sun shine through the paper.  I'm not gonna lie, it was kind of lame.  So this time I made sure to buy eclipse glasses for myself as well as my family.
There's some precious family bonding.
The glasses made it super awesome.  I sat and watched as the sun turned from a circle into a Pac Man.  I even tried to take a picture but it didn't work out very well.  Putting the glasses in front of the camera didn't work.  And without the glasses it just looked like this.

This is what Pac Man would look like if he was super shiny.
As time went on it went from Pac Man to looking like a crescent moon.  But when it got to the ring of fire a cloud went in front of the sun.  I became a very cranky boy.  Robyn doesn't like when I'm cranky.  She asked what she needed to do.  I told her I wanted her to move the clouds.  She asked if there was anything within her power I wanted her to do.  I just figured moving the clouds was within her power.

It must have been within her power because a minute later the clouds moved out of the way.  I put my glasses back on and started yelling things like, "I can finally see it. I'm looking at it right now. I'm having my special moment." and other similarly dramatic things.  Robyn made sure to hold my hand.  I think the preciousness would have blown your mind.

But, don't worry.  This happens every decade or so.  Next time it comes around, I promise we will have more mind blowing preciousness.

  1. Did you use them again for the transit of Venus?

    1. I'm kind of sad. I totally meant to but I just got super busy and didn't think about it until it was over.

  2. It was a great eclipse. Too bad you didn't go to Southern Utah with us, it was a good time. And now we have glasses to look at the sun anytime we want. And don't worry about missing the transit of venus, it turns out venus is super small compared to the sun.

  3. I'm glad you have more faith in my powers then I do. I'm so glad you finally got to have your moment.
